Swatched: Coco Allure Triple Entendre
16 Sep 2012

I know I said I wouldn’t swatch until my nails grew out a bit, but I couldn’t wait to show you this polish.  A few weeks ago, I was trawling indie polishes on Etsy (this is a Sunday morning ritual for me now, I read nails blogs and hunt for indie polishes I haven’t heard of before.  I recommend it to everyone!) and came across Coco Allure.  I’m sure I had seen them before but always signed them off as not shipping to Australia.  This time I cracked and sent a message to Bobbi asking if she would ship to Australia and sure enough she would, hurrah!

Triple Entendre was love at first sight for me – a mix of turquoise, gold and black chunky glitters.  I really prefer indie polishes that don’t feature any fine glitter as I find that there is always far too much fine glitter and it masks everything else including the base colour (Hare Polish seems to be my only exception where the balance is right).

As Triple Entendre has a clear base, I had some trouble picking underwear for it.  In the end I sponged a gradient using China Glaze First Mate as my base, then sponging with First Mate and OPI Fly.  I had to go over the nails twice to get a good contrast but I really like how it toned down OPI Fly.  It reminds me of the sky at sunset just before it really gets dark.  I also really like the effect of the glitter over the gradient.  I foresee me swatching my indie glitters like this a lot in the future!

Application was a little difficult as the hexes had a tendency to clump together, but by dabbing it on I was happy with the coverage I could get and I didn’t have to go fishing at all to get any of the glitters.  This was one coat of Triple Entendre.  One word of warning, when I swatched this on white, I found that if you brush over the black glitters too often trying to spread them out that the colour starts to bleed a little.  By dabbing it on, I didn’t have any issues at all.  I would also recommend a thick top coat.  I used to two coats of Poshe as some of the glitter edges broke free after one top coat.

Coco Allure polishes are US$8.75 each on Etsy and Bobbi has a range of around 20 polishes right now.  You can also snag mini polishes of any colour for US$3.45 each.  I almost did this as I wanted about 8 of the polishes but in the end I limited myself to 4 full sized polishes instead so I will have some more swatches coming up for you all.

  1. This is really great. I too stalk Etsy, and I have been trying to be more selective in my glitters- because everyone is dumping glitter in a base nowadays- but this over the gradient looks really nice- will have to look her up!
