NOTD: Purple and Grey Skittles
11 Sep 2012

So I’ve decided while my short nails are useless for swatching, they are still good for nail art so lots of stamping coming up until my new nubs grow out.  I had a big clean up of all the polishes that had accumulated on my coffee table today and along the way a few polishes jumped back out that I thought could work well for a skittles manicure (it’s no wonder that my coffee table always seems to have polish sitting around on it, I’m not sure I ever manage to put them all away).  I went with a purple and grey theme which meant I got to use a couple of new polishes – OPI Do You Lilac It? and My Boyfriend Scales Walls (I caved and got this at my local nail supply store on the weekend after everyone raving that it’s the perfect off white).  The other polishes I used were China Glaze Recycle, Grape Pop and Sweet Hook and Konad Special White Polish.

This all stemmed from the design on my ring finger – I’ve been dying to use the heart pattern on BundleMonster plate BM-317 and I thought it would look great over Do You Lilac It? so from there I just ran with the love and romance theme for this skittle manicure.  This would be great for Valentine’s day or an anniversary but romance doesn’t run high priority in my house so no point in hanging on to this design for a special occasion!

I love how this all came out, ironically at the end of it all, the ring finger was my least favourite nail!  I like the look of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls together with stamping in Grape Pop so my thumb and middle nails are probably my favourites, closely followed by the gradient dots (which are so easy to do – Bregje at Oooh Shinies did an amazing pink manicure like this the other day and I instantly fell in love.  I think we will be seeing a lot more of this on blogs in the near future.  I did my toes to co-ordinate with this manicure and did gradient dots on my big toes too).

I also wanted to say thank you to all my readers who have wished my a speedy recovery from having my wisdom teeth removed.  Still in a bit of pain and still off work at the moment but I’m so happy that I’m back on solid food.  So thankful wisdom teeth can only come out once!  Hoping to be back at work in the next couple of days as I’m climbing the walls at home and I know for a fact that I have nail mail waiting on my desk at work!

  1. This is a lovely manicure. My favourite is the dotticure. The others all come a close, close second :)
    And get well soon!

  2. The rose stamp looks awesome- actually, they all do! I love skittles like this. All the nails are different, yet they belong together.

  3. I love these stamps, and the skittle colors are just awesome. Great job!!

  4. This looks great! I like what you did and the colors.

  5. This is absolute perfection! Great job!

  6. Where do you get the stencils from?

    • There are a variety of sellers that you can purchase Konad plates and stamping kits from – I usually use OC Nail Art. BundleMonster sell their stamping plates directly through their website.

  7. Love the stamps…where to buy them?

    • BundleMonster and MASH have their own websites, or the nail plates can be found on Amazon as well.

  8. Your nails are amazing!! I haven’t had much luck with stamps. Could you share a few secrets?

  9. Very nice! The gradient dots are my favorite, I’ll have to try those soon. Also, good to know that Grape Pop stamps well! These all compliment each other so well.

  10. What is the best polish to use with stamping I am using gel for the nails

    • I don’t have any experience with gel nails, however I would imagine you can stamp with normal polish still as long as you use non-acetone polish remover to take it off which shouldn’t damage your gels. I’m aware of other nail bloggers who use gel polish for their base and then will put normal polish on top of the gel polish. I always recommend the Konad special polishes for stamping if you’re starting out as they’re designed especially for stamping and will be more opaque than most other polishes.

  11. I’m amazed at how talented you are! By far the best nail blog I’ve came across!! Keep up the awesome work!!!

  12. I’m just very curious where to get the supplies you detailed in ur description of the nail art. Major cool.Absolutely love em.
