NOTD: Antique Nails

This was a beautiful by product of chance today – both these polishes happened to be on my coffee table and they were meant to be together!  Cult Nails Manipulative arrived this week as part of my order from while Maria had her birthday sale and I was messing around with a leopard print manicure earlier and China Glaze Magical was one of my experimentation colours.  After spending all afternoon on my upcoming Polish Days manicure (which is awesome by the way), I realised I hadn’t done any swatching or nail art this weekend and had nothing to post :(

I started with two coats of Cult Nails Manipulative and top coated it to speed up the drying process.  Then I added a layer of China Glaze Magical (a pale coppery metallic polish) and used saran wrap/cling film to create the aged effect.  I really like the contrast between the metallic and creme polishes however I wish I could have lifted a little bit more of the metallic to expose more of the blue.

This is my second attempt at a saran wrap manicure and I really like how quick and easy it to do but I’m not really sure if it’s a fun or messy look.  My posting schedule might slow down a bit now, I’m starting French classes two nights a week as of tomorrow which will probably mean I’m more tired the rest of the week.  We will see how it goes.

  1. great idea, looks good!

  2. Love this one! And definitely need to copy it. :) Did you find the chrome polish slow-drying enough that you could lift it? That’s my one fear with using a chrome (or a fast-drying matte) with this technique…

    • I was worried about that too so I applied Magical in quite a thick layer (to the point of accidentally flooding some nails) and did one nail at a time so it wouldn’t have enough time to dry.

  3. Gorgeous! I love the colours you chose with this mani. Beautifully vintage.

  4. I really love how it looks, and it could work with a variety of color combos (copper/green for an aged copper effect, etc…)!
