For anyone looking to get into nail art, I think getting a set of dotting tools is a no brainer.  They’re one of my favourite tools and can be picked up for about $5 on ebay.  They’re really easy to use and with a bit of practice, there are a lot of patterns that can be created using them.

Today I have a really simple manicure where I used Essence Hunt Me If You Can as a base coat – this polish is a black creme with silver glass flecks that came from the Vampire’s Love collection that was released around November last year for Breaking Dawn Pt 1.  This polish is a dream to apply, two coats for perfect opacity and applies like butter.  I then grabbed Essence In Style – a teal/denim shimmer and dotted random sized dots across the bottom of my ring nail to add some interest.  Simple but fun :)

Pretty right?  I actually tried this out again using four similar green and blue shimmer shades to mix up the colours on the dots and creating a wavy line across my nails instead of filling just the bottom of one nail but sadly it chipped before I got to take a photo.  This was really easy to do but looks great and requires zero skill to achieve.  The only things to remember with dotting tools is to clean them off regularly because the polish build up will gradually make your dots larger and for consistent sized dots, redip the dotting tool in between every dot.

  1. So pretty. Dots are so easy to make and they can vamp up any old boring mani.

  2. Oh, I love this! Subtle but striking. I have to try that some time.

It’s a pity- around where I live they do sell dotting tools, but only one size (well two, one on each end). If commercial shipping to my country weren’t so over-the-top, I’d probably order a full set online… maybe I’ll ask a friend to get a set for me next time I get sent a package!
