OPI Fly
NOTD: OPI Fly and Flowers!
28 Mar 2012

If you follow me on twitter, you will know that I was quite shocked by just how bright OPI Fly is on the nails when I put it on earlier this week.  It’s an extremely saturated dark turquoise creme which has perfect opacity in two coats and is amazingly glossy.  However it was also the first time I’ve ever put a on a colour and wanted to hide my nails at work because I didn’t feel it was appropriate.

So in an effort to tone it down, I added some stamping to break up the blue and add some distraction :)  I used a simple flower design from BundleMonster plate BM03 and Color Club Hot Like Lava and then added pink and orange rhinestones to finish it off.  I found Hot Like Lave a little difficult to stamp but it might have been due to me forgetting to clean off my nails before starting the stamping (as I’d already been wearing the polish for 24 hours at that point).

With autumn closing in, I’m starting to run out of daylight hours during the week so I’m back to bathroom photos in artificial light :(  I’m thinking about investing in a lightbox but I’m not 100% sold as I can’t leave it setup all the time and I’m unlikely to set it up just for one mani photo like this.  I still prefer swatches in daylight but I think that artificial light is ok for NOTDs, let me know what you think!  I’d be curious to hear from fellow bloggers who have a lightbox and cats – I’m suspicious that my cats would make it their home or break it if I leave it setup.

  1. That is *such* a pretty shade of teal and I love the use of complementary colours. :)

p.s. It always throws me for a loop when I reminded that it’s autumn somewhere else, kinda strange but cool when I think about it again. ;)

  2. Very cute! Love your color combo!

  3. The addition of the flowers was an awesome touch! :D

I will admit that my lightbox setup is not the most-space friendly, but even though it’s a fold-up, I can’t believe I’ve had to make room for it! I dunno if you can get them in Australia, but there is one from Cowboy Studios that I use, so if you really have to you can fold it up after every use. I believe it can also come with lamps, if you wanted.

  4. Wow this is gorgeous!
