NOTD: Layering with Glitter
21 Jan 2012

This was my second attempt at a glitter sandwich this week – turns out that Essie Absolutely Shore and China Glaze Snow Globe is too subtle a combination!  So this time I went with what I expected to be a mermaid type affair but looks more like the early evening sky to me.

I started with two layers of Ulta3 Mermaid Green  (green with a hint of teal), then a layer of Sinful Colours Nail Junkie (a blue jelly base loaded with blue, green and gold glitter), then a dabbed on layer of Milani Jewel FX in Silver, then two layers of OPI Austin-taceous Turquoise.  To finish it off I slapped on a coat of Poshe Quick Dry Top Coat (which I’m currently test driving as an alternative to Seche Vite).

Here is the finished effect – I kind of wish I hadn’t gone for the second layer of Austin-taceous Turquoise but the silver flakes really stood out before I did that.  Here is a detail photo and you can see Nail Junkie lurking underneath:

What you sadly can’t see in these photos is the delicious duochrome effect of Austin-taceous Turquoise which gives it the early evening dusk effect in my opinion.  For those of you familiar with the polish it goes from a bright turquoise to a darker blue to purple at really extreme angles.  I need to find more jelly polishes to use as top coats for glitter sandwiches, it seems my collection is sadly lacking in variety but it does make a good excuse to buy more polish :)

  1. I love this layering combo! It looks really good on you!

  2. I usually don’t like glitter over or under anything but cremes and jellies, but this looks realllly good! :)

    • I would have preferred a plain finish but either Im doing something wrong or my polishes are too opaque. I can never get the glitter to show through. I thought I had a winner with Absolutely Shore as it takes 4 coats :(

  3. that looks fabulous!
How are you finding the Poshe? I get terrible shrinkage with it but sometimes it’s OK. Seems to depend on the polish I use it over.

    • Early days still but so far so good. Im road testing INM Out The Door too and then Im going to compare both to SV.

  4. love this combination!!

  5. So pretty, i love jelly sandwiches !
