This is a quickie bonus post for you all today because I really wanted to share with you about the You’ve Got Nail Shop. One of Australia’s most well known nail/beauty bloggers – Jacie of You’ve Got Nail – has launched her own online store selling nail care products and the nail files she has sourced are fantastic! I’ve been in need of a new crystal nail file for months now, remarkably I have worn out my old one and it just wasn’t filing very efficiently anymore. Jacie being the perfectionist that she is, has been working hard to not just find products to sell but also test them and ensure they’re good quality so I knew it would be worth waiting. The deal sealer for me was when she announced she would have travel sized crystal files too – I’ve been lemming one forever and never been able to find one. If you just want to see the nail files and hear my thoughts on them, skip to the bottom.
As soon as the store went live, I was on and ordering my new nail files – at the moment there are full size and travel sized nail files, as well as nail buffers and nail polish bottle holders (these are very cool and hold your polish bottle at the optimum angle to get every last drop of polish out). As well as selling each item individually, there are also bundles available – I went with the “Home and Away” bundle which included one of each nail file for AU$22.50.
I was very impressed with the store – I was away from home on business at the time and did the whole thing off my iPhone and had my order done in less than 5 minutes. It was simple to use, offers Paypal as well as credit card payment and shipping costs are exactly that – just the cost of postage, no mark up! The prices are very competitive for Australia too – I would easily pay the same amount in a store and wouldn’t be as sure of the quality of the product as I am buying from Jacie.
I shelled out a bit extra for express postage because I really had been hanging in there for my new nail files and I badly needed to reshape my nails. Plus I had Friday off work so I wanted them then! You can imagine my surprise when I got to the post office and my two nail files were in a huge shipping box – I was yet again impressed at the care that was given to make sure the files wouldn’t get broken in transit.
Here is the box I got, I put some keys into the photo to give a sense of scale, big box for two nail files! (My camera wasn’t playing nice and wouldn’t focus on everything, but I can assure you the invoice says $22.50). Everything was cushioned in green tissue paper, hand scrunched by one of Jacie’s son and the files themselves were wrapped in bubble wrap too.
The files themselves are super cute and have You’ve Got Nail engraved (on the large file) or printed (on the travel file) onto the handle. Because I was one of the first 30 to order a travel sized nail file, I also got a cute Swarovski crystal on it too.
Now I’ve tested both of the nail files, I can also attest to their excellent quality. The full size nail file is really comfortable and well balanced to use – it’s thinner and lighter than my old one and the end has a really nice point on it, rather than being blunt and slightly rounded, which I like to get rid of any bits of nail that folded back under the free edge during filing. While saying that, it’s not so thin that I’m concerned it’s going to break and it’s not so pointy that I think it’s going to cut me. I would say it’s a medium fine grain – it doesn’t obliterate my nail length in a couple of swipes (which I’ve seen from other crystal files in the past), but I’m not sawing away all day to file down one nail either (like my old one!).
The travel sized nail file really is tiny – it 9cm long and probably not even 1cm wide. It’s perfect to drop into your handbag/make up bag and have for any emergency nail filing needs on the go! I wouldn’t be using it to reshape my nails, but I don’t do that while I’m out and about anyway. It will certainly save me in the case of a small tear or if I get a peel on my nail wall (which happens too frequently for my liking).
Both nail files are double sided and can easily be rinsed clean in warm water which makes them much more hygenic than standard emery boards. I already fully endorsed crystal nail files over any other types and the You’ve Got Nail files will be my go to nail files from here on!
